Is Non-Duality The End of Seeking?

Welcome to my new blog: What is Non-Duality?
This is my version of non-duality. Topics I will be writing about include:
- Is there a separate self?
- Is there anything you can do to get this?
- What do I think of other non-duality teachers out there.
- Does non-duality make you happy?
- What is enlightenment?
- How to stop searching
- What the heck is non-duality?
So, where to start?
Well, maybe I should say a bit about my journey as a spiritual seeker.
I used to identify myself as a spiritual seeker. I was looking for answers to life, the universe and everything. It took me many years of searching to come to the realisation that it was the very act of searching that was keeeping me from finding what I was searching for! Searching is a movement away from where you are. If you are searching for enlightenment then it is always somewhere in the future, over there, never here.
What I was searching for was always here. The act of searching prevented me from seeing that there was nothing to find. It was as if searching was a black cloth obscuring a light. Remove the black cloth and the light that was always there is seen.
This is a bit tricky as you cannot sit down with yourself and make a decision not to seek. If you are a seeker, then you cannot make up your mind to stop seeking by some wilful act. What is needed is to see right through seeking, to realise that you can never work this thing out by analysing and dissecting.
I remember spending a night trying to work this whole thing out. I wrestled with questions like:
- What is non-duality?
- Is there a separate self?
I was driving myself mad with probing into all this with my intellect. I then stopped and realised something profound yet utterly simple:
“There is no way that I can figure this out . I give up!”
At this point my identity as a seeker dropped away and I was ready to see what was really going on.
More from me later.
